Your tasks

Polatis all-optical switches enable dynamic connectivity directly at the fibre layer, with outstanding reliability and the industry's lowest optical loss. Our products allow the efficient management of ever-increasing data volumes and are a key building block in the evolution towards software defined networks.

We are looking for an experienced engineer to test the assemblies that we produce and diagnose and repair any faults (predominantly electronics). The work includes a good deal of interaction with assembly and test staff in a clean room environment and daily contact with engineering staff.

Responsibilities include:

  • Diagnosis and repair of all circuitry and printed circuits used in Polatis products
  • Assembly, testing and data analysis of precision manufactured parts for manufacturing and development of all Polatis products
  • QC inspection
  • Creation of work instructions
  • Characterisation of faults and improvement ideas to increase yield
  • Data analysis

Your profile

To be successful you'll need to:

  • Be HNC qualified in Electronic or Electrical and Electronic Engineering or similar
  • Have approximately 3 to 5 years industrial experience preferably gained in a telecommunications and/or Aerospace environment
  • Be able to test and fix complex electronic circuit boards to component level
  • Be able to interpret engineering proposals and liaise with other disciplines
  • Have evidence of strong practical skills and ideally be trained to IPC soldering standard
  • Have a good working knowledge of both analogue and digital electronics
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills and be a good team player
You'll also have good working knowledge of PC based packages, such as Microsoft office e.g. word and Excel, be used to working in a busy environment delivering to a high standard of workmanship and able to contribute valuable ideas to improve process times, quality and yield.
