Your tasks

HUBER+SUHNER Polatis designs and manufactures all-optical fibre-optic switches which make and maintain their optical connections by means of our patented DirectLight™ beam steering technology. 

In this new role, you’ll be working within a multi-disciplinary development team to design and develop core technology for our optical switches.  You’ll be responsible for the entire lifecycle of the product from conceptual design and analysis through to qualification and transfer to production. Your responsibilities will include:  

  • Design and development of core technology for next generation optical switches
  • Analysis and test of precision micro-mechanical designs
  • Integration and packaging of optical and electrical sub-assemblies
  • Liaison with other internal teams and subcontractors
  • Manufacturing and performance improvements to existing products

Your profile

To be successful, you’ll need to have a degree in mechanical engineering or a related subject, plus significant experience of working at a senior level in a high-tech design / development environment.  You’ll have a hands-on, innovative approach to work and be self-motivated and focused on delivery.  You’ll also be an expert in 3D CAD and finite element analysis and be familiar with high reliability micro-fabrication techniques.  Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential.

Experience of PDM, and proficiency in precision opto-mechanical or electro-mechanical design, is highly desirable.
