About the Hardware Design Manager role

In this role you will lead a team of highly technical and talented Hardware design engineers to deliver cutting edge electronics design solutions for Optical switching incorporating analog and digital electronics. You will have complete design ownership of the product lifecycle for all electronic aspects of the Polatis products including hardware roadmap and architecture design. You will facilitate detailed requirements capture and management using a systems engineering approach to ensure products of class leading quality and reliability. You will ensure all electronics designs comply to relevant safety and EMC standards and support assurance Engineer in executing the Safety, EMC and other certifications of products. You will be active in interacting with our customers on new and existing design and support the wider business to ensure supplier quality and supply security. You will be key in developing our team of Hardware engineers, our tools and processes to maintain technical leadership in the field of optical switching.

You will also need:
  • Bachelors degree (or higher) in Electronic or Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
  • Substantial industrial experience, preferably in a telecommunications environment, with a proven track record of delivering complex products against demanding timescales.
  • Full lifecycle management: capable of managing design packages from concept to full product delivery
  • Experience in developing scalable, robust HW architecture.
  • Strong Analogue design skills including mixed signal (DAC/ADC), Sensor design, low-noise/low-power amplifier/power design, HV drive of piezo/MEMS devices.
  • Experience working with external partners on custom IC designs and outsourced work packages.
  • Strong Digital design skills including modern communications for robust scalable intra circuit designs
  • Fluent in current technologies, design methodologies and advanced simulation/modelling techniques
  • In depth knowledge of control systems and real time control loops.
  • Experience managing complex PCB designs using a mixture of analogue and digital electronics.
  • Experience managing designs with FPGA, DSP and embedded processor systems
