About the Automation Assembly Engineer

The role supports the development of automated high precision assembly processes, the transfer to manufacturing of processes and products, and the technical support of the assembly and test processes in manufacturing. The aim being to deliver improved capacity scalability and yields. The role works very closely with our Design teams and New Product Introduction teams.

The role combines mechanical, electrical and programming disciplines to develop new manufacturing assembly processes, drive up yields, monitor and control process capability and increase throughput.

About You

To be successful, you will have proven experience of high precision assembly in automation environments and programming of electro-mechanical control systems, using National Instruments, LabVIEW or other sequencing software.

  • Educated in an engineering subject to degree level or BTEC HND with additional experience
  • Proven ability to develop high-precision assembly processes and to transfer the processes to manufacturing.
  • Good manual dexterity required, and experience in handling fibre optic products advantageous
  • Able to conceptualize assembly and automation methods and to understand interactions between components, processes and product performance
  • Demonstrable project and supplier management skills
  • Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and through written reports
  • Able to deploy numerical, experimental and statistical problem-solving abilities
  • Capable of working within a multi-discipline team
  • Able and willing to travel to volume manufacturing sites and key vendors when required
  • Energy, enthusiasm and a commitment to quality and on-time delivery
  • Experience in laser welding and laser soldering advantageous
