About the Head of Engineering and Development

The Head of Engineering and Development will lead the development of high reliability optical switching systems and their transfer into series production. The role encompasses requirements capture; module and equipment design; resource and project coordination; and product lifecycle management.

Together with the CTO, the Head of Engineering and Development will maintain an overview of technological trends, contribute to the product roadmap and secure know-how with patents. Working closely with other departments and suppliers, as well as other engineering leaders within the HUBER+SUHNER group. They will be responsible for productivity of the engineering teams, helping to shape the culture and implementing the right approach to achieve optimal results in terms of cost and time targets. Working with the team leads, the individual will strive to deepen and broaden engineering capabilities through training and recruitment of the best people and by developing the next generation of leaders.

About You

To be successful:

  • Extensive technical and leadership expertise with hands-on development experience
  • Proven experience in leading, coaching and mentoring, building driven and high performing teams
  • Qualified to at least degree level in electronics, physics, software or related engineering discipline
  • Substantial experience of electronic systems engineering, ideally in telecommunications or aerospace industries, at a senior / management level
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering complex technical projects
  • Expert at coordinating and developing cross-disciplinary teams
  • Skilled at managing programmes in an agile, fast-paced environment
  • Familiar with all aspects of product lifecycle management and design review processes
  • Good knowledge of reliability engineering and design for manufacture
  • Confident, concise and convincing in written and oral presentations
  • Self-starter, passionate about quality, driven by achievement
